Travel Report 10 WochenKlausurについて1/ About WochenKlausur1

今回ウィーンでWochenKlausurのMartinaに出会って、いろんな事を聞く事ができて、そして考えた。WochenKlausurがどういう活動をしているのかは以前に書いた以下の記事を参照してください。何故アーティストが社会的な問題に介入する必要があるのか。Martinaがいうには、行政やNPOの現場でホームレスや薬物中毒の女性の為のシェルター、若者の就業問題などを考えようとした時に、組織の中で新しいアプローチを採用することには様々なハードルが待ち受けているから、結局は因襲的なアプローチをとらざる得なかったりする。もちろん頑張って挑戦しようとしている人が沢山いることは分かったうえで、組織の一員として動くということは、そういうことなのだと思う。こういう状況に外部のアーティストが介入することで、ハードルを何個かまとめて飛び越すことができるとMartinaは言っていた。

While I was in Vienna, I was lucky enough to meet Martina from Wochenklausur, an artist group based in Vienna, and have an interesting conversation that have given me lots of homework to think. Please take a moment to read the past article that introduces what the group does below. Why do artists need to intervene in social and political causes in today's world? Martina was saying that for someone who works at NPOs and governmental organizations for issues concerning homeless people, women with drug addiction, and youth unemployment etc.., employing a new approach is extremely difficult because of a bureaucratic environment that sticks to conventional methods to avoid any controversy. For artists to intervene in this type of unchanging setting, however, they are able to jump over several hurdles at once.

Travel Report ９: Barcelona

９月８日にウィーンからバルセロナに移動した。バルセロナの街をひとことで形容するなら、人の街だと思う。どこに居ても人の声で溢れていて、老若男女、いつも誰かと誰かが喋っているから、カフェの音楽は殆ど聞こえない。道で友達にあってもとにかく喋る、最後のキスの後もまたまた喋る。なんか根本的な人生に対する考え方が違うような気がする。人が集まり、時間を共に過ごす事に一番の重きが置かれている。友達と一緒に、食べて/飲んで/喋って/タバコ＋αを吸って/ギターをひいて/歌って/夜が更けていく。みんな贅沢な暮しをしている訳ではない。自分の友達を通してしか話せないけど、むしろ、日本に住む私たちから見たらかなり質素に暮らしていたように思う。ご飯を食べる為に集まり、街中の広場に集まっては喋る。お金を沢山使わなくても、生活を楽しむ方法を知っている。

On September 8th, I moved to Barcelona from Wien. What struck me the most is that no matter where I was, I was always surrounded by voices of people, talking, talking, and talking. People, young and old, kiss - talk - kiss - talk. It seems to me that people value spending time with their friends more than anything else. There is a sense of collectiveness. Coming from Japanese culture, where there is no visible body communication and the current society is set up in a way that you can spend a day without talking to people, I find it really humane and attractive.

Travel Report 8: Wochenklausur！in Vienna

月曜日にウィーンに到着する。クロアチアのいい天気とうって変わって、毎日雨模様。前回ウィーンに遊びに来た時も確か同じような天気だったと思う。あまり相性がよくないのかも。天気は最悪だったけど、今回の一番の収穫はWochenklausurのMartinaに会えたこと。Wochenklausurの歴史、現在進行中のプロジェクト、ウィーン市における文化政策のことなど、いろんな話が聞けて、本当に良かった。Martinaも「はなれ」のことに興味を持ってくれて、これから一緒に面白い事が出来そうです。詳細は後日またアップします。

In Vienna, I visted Martina from Wochenklausur, Vienna based artist group, in their office. Since I discovered the group, I have been always fascinated with their projects, the way they play with the word “art,” and wanted to talk to them in person. She talked about the group’s history as well as its strategies and many other things. I still need sometime to digest what we discussed, but will upload more texts later.

Travel Report ７: プーラ → トリエステ → ウィーン/ Pula - Trieste - Vienna

バスでプーラからイタリアのトリエステまで移動する。バスでスロベニアとイタリアの
国境を越え、トリエステでウィーンへの電車を待つ間、街を散策する。須賀敦子の文章でしか知らなかった世界に急に足を踏み入れるも、イタリアの街に対して全く準備不足で、言葉がぐちゃぐちゃになり、重厚な建物に圧倒される。でも美味しいパスタとワイン、カプチーノが飲めた。次々と国境が変わり、それに応じて見るもの聞くものが次々と変わっていくことになかなか慣れない。国境が変わるたびに違う言語を巧みに操るクロアチア人のブルーノを傍目にみて、日本に生まれたことを悔やみながらも、島国だからしょうがないと言い聞かせる。羨ましい。
We went to Trieste from Pula by bus, crossing the Slovenian and Italian borders. While waiting for a train to Vienna I had few hours to walk around the city of Trieste. Having a chance to see Trieste, which I only knew from the essays by Suga Atsuko, a Japanese writer, is a great experience, something I did not expect. No matter how many times do I experience this, crossing a border after another and seeing everything changes, the way people look, talk and eat, remains so foreign to me. Seeing Bruno, who manipulates different languages so easily, I blamed that i was born in this small island. What can you do...

Travel Report ６: Suggestions for Rojc

以前の記事にも書いた、プーラにあるロイツというスペースについて。とてつもない可能性があるスペースだと思う。特に、アート系だけではなくていろんな団体がオフィススペースを持っているということに希望を感じる。ただ、折角いろんな団体が一緒にいるのに、団体間の交流がまりうまくできていなかったり、このビルの存在意義を共有できていないことなど、いろいろ問題はある...

More about the Rojc in Pula. I see so much potential in this space, and feel a little sad that people are not as passionate as they were before about this space. I have heard about the many problems Rojc is facing: Not everyone who occupies this building, from artist, the theater company, NPO for helping immigrants and for environmental work, to Tai-Chi and Tecondo Class, shares the same objective and its history of how this place was born. ..

Travel Report ５: Small but Nice!!!

クロアチアは小さいけど、とってもいい国でした。大変な状況を何度も乗り越えてきたからこその強さと、優しさをを持った人達に出会った。旅行者としては失敗しまくったけど、人との出会いという点からみたら、本当に素敵でかっこいい人達に巡り会えた。距離的にははなれているけど、楽しい事を一緒にして行きたいと思う。
Croatia is a small but nice country. The fact that Croatia has gone through lots of tough times explains why people in Croatia are so strong and warmhearted. I failed as a tourist, but I got the highest grade when it comes to meeting amazingly intelligent, creative people. I have a strong sense that I am going to do some projects with them in near future.

Travel Report ４:はなれたはなれ/ Hanare at Fažana

□ブルスケッタ　２種　／Bruschetta
□野菜のディップ２種（スクータ・ディル＆味噌・ピーナッツ）／Vegetable w/ two dips
□スペイン風オムレツ ／Tortilla
□バーニャ母が作ったチーズの沢山入ったパイ（名前忘れた）／Cheese pie made by Vanja's mom (i forgot the name)

今日はプーラに滞在する最後の夜なので、プーラのすぐ近くの、ファジャーナという町で、はなれた「はなれ」を開催する。バーニャと一緒につまみやすい料理何品か準備する。クロアチアではディナーパーティーをすることがあまりないみたいで、バーに飲みに行く事が主流らしい。バーニャがプーラでも「はなれ」のようなことができひんかなと言っていたので、嬉しくなる。
Vanja and I i did Hanare at Fažana on the same day to to synchronize with Hanare in Kyoto. In Croatia where people go for drinking at bars without food, I hope this kind of party that offers tasty and healthy food for people to share will be more popular. I was really happy to hear that Vanja was saying she wants to do a project like Hanare in pula.

Travel Report 3: 観光産業と都市/Tourism Industry ＆ City

プーラとポレッチという街に滞在して、観光産業のパワーに圧倒された。夏場の４ヶ月にヨーロッパ中からやってくる旅行客のために市の多くのリソースが注ぎ込まれて、観光シーズン以外の季節、街は静まり返る。夏にやってくる観光客の人数が多ければ多い程、シーズン外の季節との落差が激しくなる。プーラやポレッチでは、ドラッグにはまる若い人達が多いと聞く。夏の間、より多くの観光客を引きつけるために、毎日のようにパーティーやフェスティバルが開催される一方で、冬になると、街から人が消えていく。前の記事にも書いたことだけど、例えばポーラやポレッチのアーティスト達が、観光シーズン外に地元の若い人達を対象にワークショプを企画しても、市から補助金は得られないと聞く。京都も一二を争う観光都市だけど、一年中が観光シーズンなのと、大学の街であったりすることが、観光客の消費対象だけに成り果ててしまう事を食い止めている...

I have been little overwhelmed by the power of a tourist industry here in Pula and Porec in Croatia. All the resources of the cities are spent in order to attract tourists coming from all over the Europe in a period of 4 month. After the season, the towns fall asleep until next summer comes up, and the more tourists they get during the season, the more quiet the cities seem to be during the off season, according to locals. While these cities sponsor dozens of festivals throughout the summer, there is almost no vibrant cultural activity going on in winter. If artists want to get any grant from the city government for their projects, projects have to be held in summer, period...

Travel Report 2: From Porec, Croatia

プーラから少し北にあるポレッチ（Porec）という街に一泊二日で滞在。ここも主にヨーロッパからの旅行客でにぎわう観光都市で、プーラと同様に夏のシーズン（５月～９月）の間は街中がバーケーションを楽しむ人達で賑わってる。ローマ時代の都市計画に基づいて立てられた古い街で、小さいけど、至るところに歴史的遺産が残されている美しい街。ここでも、歴史遺産はおいといて、地元のアーティストに会ったり、アートスペース、アトリエの見学で一日が終わっていく。Davor
というポレッチ出身で現在はバルセロナ在住のマルチメディアアーティストがいろんな人を紹介してくれた。４～５年前に地元のアーティストが廃屋を利用して作ったアトリエ兼、パフォーマンススペース、イベントスペース、現在はSilviano というアーティストが使用しているステュディオ、等々。市のリソースの殆どが観光産業に投資されている街で、観光のためではないアートスペースを得るために戦ってきた、地元アーティストの活動の歴史と現状を聞いて、またまた勇気をもらう。大部分の住人は観光産業しかない現状をなんとなく受け入れているのが現状だと思うけど、こういう少数のかっこいい人達がちゃんと廃屋を占拠して市と戦っている。誰かから与えてもらうのじゃなくて、主張して自分達で作っていってる。コレクティブとしてこういう拠点を日本に作っていくにはどうしたらいいのだろう？

I took a short trip to Porec, little bit north from Pula, which is also a summer tourist mecca for Europeans. This　small, yet really beautiful town with lots of historical monuments all over the city, was built during the Roman era. As usual I skipped all the monuments, and went to see the artist studios and event spaces built by young creative people several years ago, with Davor , a multi-media artist currently living in Barcelona. Talking to him and his friend, Silviano, a scluptor, I learned that Porec too faces the problem; the city's every resource is dedicated to a tourism industry in the summer season, from May to Sep. that there is no vibrant cultural activity whatsoever for local people after summer. Several years ago, a group of artists like Davor and Silviano converted an abandoned house on the seaside into the studio/performance space for local young people to engage in art activity. Although there is still long way to go and obiously, a big obstacles to overcome, learning about their continuing fight is really inspiring and encouraging for me, but the question is, how we can build these collective places in Kyoto?

Travel Report 1: From Pula, Croatia

Karlo Rojc　と名付けられたビルにつれていってもらう。このビルは、もともと軍隊の基地として使われていたらしく、軍隊が出て行った後、１９９９年ごろから、アナーキストやパンクロッカー、移民の人達が占拠しだして、何年か市ともめた後、市と合法的にこのビルを使うための契約をを交わした。ヨーロッパの諸都市では、こういう占拠状態から始まるアンダーグラウンドの施設は割と多いけど、クロアチアの中ではこういう試みはこれまであまりなかったみたい。外から見た感じだと、プーラの他のビルとは全然違って、かなりインダストリアルな感じです（中庭には草木一本生えてなかったし）。観光客に埋め尽くされた街にいると、ここに住む若い人達のエネルギーの持って行き場はどこなのだろうと思っていたから、このビルのプロジェクトを教えてもらった時は、かなり嬉しかった。当たり前だけど、どこの街にも面白いことをしていこうとしている人達がいる。
